Introduction

Hey guys,  In this post I will be explaining my picks and my league settings.  As I have said above in my blog description, I am in 2 leag...

Top 10 D/ST

Hey,

On this page will be a ranking of my top 10 defenses, without projected fantasy points.  Defenses have way too many categories to be based off of, so I don't want to make inaccurate projections.

COME BACK TOMORROW FOR THE NEXT 2!

1. Arizona Cardinals

The addition of Chandler Jones only helps an already insane defense.  Hopefully Tyrann Matheiu plays Week 1, and doesn't start the season on the PUP list, but even if he does, this Cardinals defense is not to be reckoned with.  Just looking at divisional games, they have 2 tough ones against the Seahawks, but also have more games against their other two divisional teams.  In addition to playing the Rams and 49ers twice each, they also get to play New England without Tom Brady.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

With some middle of the line offenses, and one below average offense, the Chiefs should have another under the radar year on the defensive end.  The Chiefs have consistently been a top 5 defense, and yet in my league last year, were available in about week 5.  The Chiefs haven't gotten much worse, although they will have to play without Justin Houston for the first few games of the season.

3. Seattle Seahawks

Playing in a division with two questionable offenses, the Seahawks should keep up their streak of allowing the least amount of points in the NFL.  The only problem last year for Seattle was the lack of turnovers forced, which is likely to change this year.  Great defense who didn't get the nickname "Legion of Boom" for no reason.

4. Houston Texans

As long as JJ Watt comes back healthy the Texans D/ST is a must start every week.  They are pretty much matchup proof, although they play in a good Offensive Division.  I see green grass ahead for the Texans and the fact that they should be leading most games could help risky plays/turnovers by the other teams.

5. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals have 2 tough games this year in their division with the Steelers, but they also have a lot more games against the Browns and Ravens.  I think their defense should do well in points and yards allowed, but not do too well in touchdowns again.  I see no wrong taking the Bengals even first in the defense round, as long as you do your research.

6. Carolina Panthers

Not bringing back Josh Norman leaves the Panthers vulnerable on the outside.  In a division with receivers like Mike Evans, Julio Jones and Brandon Cooks, corners are especially important.  They still have a solid front 7 with Luke Kuechly not going anywhere, so I expect a lot of fumbles and sacks.  I worry that the pass defense might be a little damaging to points allowed, but let's see.

7. Denver Broncos

With the losses of Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan, you would think the Broncos would take at least a small hit.  Add in the fact that they have Mark Sanchez at QB, and the defense might as well be playing the whole game.  The biggest problem I see here is how much they could be on the field.  That being said, if they get a lot of 3 and outs, then that shouldn't be a problem.  Solid defense that shouldn't go horribly wrong.

8. Oakland Raiders

With arguably the Best Linebacker in football in Khalil Mack, the Raiders pass rush was pretty good last year.  They made some nice additions in the offseason including Bruce Irvin.  The Raiders play in a good defensive division, but none of the teams in that division have a phenomenal offense.  Look for some good play from the Raiders, who could end up being even higher than 8.

9. New York Jets

The Jets have a pretty tough schedule, but they also have a pretty tough defense.  I think the Jets are a solid start any week with the exceptions being the Cardinals and the Patriots.  They have a great D-Line and hopefully their Corners and Safeties can put up a solid year.  Looking forward to a new season of Jets defense.

10. New England Patriots

Yes, they lost Chandler Jones.  They still have a relatively weak division and they signed some more defensive linemen, so the production shouldn't decline that much.  That being said, they could be on the field a lot more in weeks 1 through 4 because Garoppolo is their QB.  I see a good output from the Pats, but I would have another defense on hand to switch out with them.
